Additional certifications required for specific type of vessel and particular rank as per employer/charterer requirements

Safety First!
If, in the professional judgment of the Master, a conflict between any safety and security requirements applicable to the ship arises during it's operations, the Master shall give effect to those requirements necessary to maintain the safety of the ship. In execution thereof, he is authorized to decide on and take any measures to avoid danger to his ship, crew and any other persons on board, cargo and environment, even if this requires him to deviate from this SMS.
In the latter case, the Master will report in writing to the DPA/CSO stating his arguments. The Master may request the assistance of the DPA/CSO which will be given to him without delay or restriction. The Master shall not be constrained by the Company, the Charterer or any other person from taking or executing any decision which, in the professional judgment of the Master, is necessary to maintain the safety and security of the ship
He is protected against unjustified dismissal.

Overriding Authority
The Master has the overriding authority and responsibility to make decisions which, in the professional judgment of the Master, is necessary to maintain the ship safety, ship security and environmental protection.
